Have you noticed the large cardboard bins located in and around our school?
Those are the new paper recycling bins for the STEM club’s FLL project!
What is FLL? FIRST LEGO League (FLL®) challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During the TRASH TREK season, teams will choose and solve a real-world trash problem in the Project. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL’s signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, and teamwork. We’re not talking trash – we’re cleaning it up! In the 2015 FIRST LEGO League TRASH TREK Challenge, 290,000 children ages 9 to 16 from over 80 countries will explore the fascinating world of trash. From collection, to sorting, to smart production and reuse, there is more to your trash than meets the eye. Join FIRST LEGO League teams on a Trash Trek to discover the hidden (or not so hidden) world of trash!
How Does This Recycling System Work? Once implemented, there will be large recycling bins in all the classrooms and even a few other locations around the school such as the library, band room, and gym. These bins are for paper only! Whether it is a worksheet or just scrap paper all paper is accepted. (Note: Please insure that your teacher has recorded your grade before recycling any worksheets or tests.) Every Friday a STEM member will come around to each recycling bin and take all the paper out and place it in the large green bin behind the school. Once full, Resolute Forest Products will come and recycle all that paper into new paper! Learn more about Resolute Forest Products at http://www.resoluteforestproducts.com/en/?langtype=4105
